Since 2003 Zwaard & Steen practices Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) focused on the
European longsword. Since then Zwaard & Steen has grown into a school that teaches over 120
students in both Rotterdam and Utrecht. The basis for our lessons are manuscripts from the 14th and 15th century, belonging to the German tradition of Johannes Lichternauer and his students.
Practicing Historical European Martial Arts is a combination of sport, exercise and delving into the ancient fighting styles. It is a unique experience which combines the gathering knowledge with creating a good condition and building confidence.
